Major coral bleaching events have left the world's reefs in great peril. Coral reefs occupy less than 1% of the ocean floor but support nearly a quarter of all marine species, contributing to ocean health and the production of 70% of the world's oxygen. Additionally, they contribute trillions of dollars to the global economy annually. Their survival is crucial for the planet.
Oris is partnering with the pioneering non-profit Reef Restoration Foundation to conserve and protect these life-giving natural bodies. Founded in 2016, the Reef Restoration Foundation specializes in ocean-based coral nurseries, growing coral to preserve these biodiverse ecosystems. In 2018, Oris joined forces with the foundation to further their mission of bringing Change for the Better.
To support this mission, Oris is introducing the Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition IV, a 2,000-piece version of the new Aquis Date Calibre 400. This watch embodies Oris' commitment to climate neutrality and the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
The sales of the Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition IV will directly support the Reef Restoration Foundation’s coral-tree-planting mission. This financial commitment aims to combat the devastating impacts of climate change on coral reefs. In March, the Great Barrier Reef suffered its fifth mass bleaching event, underscoring the urgent need for conservation efforts.
Oris Co-CEO Rolf Studer emphasizes the brand's dedication: “Oris is climate neutral and committed to the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Supporting the Reef Restoration Foundation is a joy and we’re delighted to shine a light on their work to counter the effects of climate change on the world’s reefs.”
The Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition IV is not just a timepiece; it is a statement of precision, environmental stewardship, and dedication to preserving one of the world's most vital ecosystems.
