Humphrey bangle twister
Armreif mit Süßwasser Perle und Onyx Stein
Humphrey bangle with freshwater pearl
The goal that Humphrey, in collaboration with Norbert Muerrle, set for this line of jewelry was to find a stainless steel material that is elastic. After more than a year of development work, a 2 mm thick fabric consisting of many individual stainless steel threads in different alloys and thicknesses was developed. The stainless steel threads are twisted and processed into one another. Only the right arrangement provides the desired properties.
The bangle is easy to open and then nestles up against the wrist. If the bangle is too loose, it can simply be turned smaller and will then fit perfectly again.
The design with the different balls may be reminiscent of the "retro style". What is certain is that these pieces are simply beautiful.
Humphrey's Freshwater Pearls
Although the traditional source of pearls is oysters that live in salt water, mollusks that live in freshwater lakes and rivers can also produce pearls.
Freshwater pearls are tough and resist chipping, abrasion and show less signs of wear.
Freshwater pearls differ from other cultured pearls in that they are not provided with a core. Instead, a small incision is made in the tissue, into which a piece of tissue from another oyster is inserted. The mussels are cared for between 2 and 6 years. The finished beads are made of solid mother of pearl.
In recent years, the Chinese have taken the art of freshwater pearl farming to a level where the top quality pearls are almost indistinguishable from their saltwater counterparts.
The HUMPHREY jewelery wearer can therefore be sure that she owns a special piece of jewellery.
Dangers to the Pearls
Due to their chemical composition, pearls are sensitive to chemical and physical influences (e.g. they should be removed for showering and washing the hair).
They consist mainly of calcium carbonate and the organic horny substance conchyn. Pearls are sensitive to excessive heat, drought and moisture.
Pearl care
There are special cleansing baths for this that are mild. If possible, pearls should not be ultrasonically cleaned.
You can easily clean the beads yourself from time to time. Place the pearl in a bath of lukewarm water with a dash of mild dish soap and a little alcohol and brush gently. Then rinse the bead with clear water and dry the bead with a soft cloth. Every two to three years you can carefully rub the pearl with lanolin.
A piece of pearl jewelery gives pleasure on many days and for a lifetime!
