Arita porcelain: A heritage of Japanese craftsmanship
Arita, a small town on Kyushu, the third largest island in southwestern Japan, gained fame at the beginning of the 17th century when clay suitable for porcelain production was found there. The porcelain products were soon appreciated in Japan for their high quality and craftsmanship. The mechanical movements of the Seiko Presage models have an equally impressive history, stemming from Seiko's heritage of over 100 years of watchmaking tradition.
Handcrafted dials by Master Hiroyuki Hashiguchi
The dials of the automatic watch are developed by the experienced master craftsman Hiroyuki Hashiguchi and his colleagues in collaboration with the Presage team, and are manufactured by a renowned craft workshop in Arita, which has been producing porcelain since 1830. The production of the dials takes place in a multi-stage process that requires skill, patience, and experience. In this process, the dials are coated with a glaze unique to Arita porcelain, giving them a deep, rich surface.
