Seiko Prospex Automatic Diver - Special Edition 2018
The first diving watch from Seiko, and also the first in Japan, was produced in 1965, at a time when watches with high water resistance were still relatively rare. It featured a self-winding movement and was water-resistant up to 150 meters. The watch was designed for maximum reliability and readability even under the harshest conditions and was used during the Japanese Antarctic Expedition (1966-1969). Back then, when navigation technology was still in its infancy, a precise watch was absolutely essential for astronomical observations in the polar region, and the Seiko diving watch proved to be a reliable companion on every expedition. However, this watch could do much more than just meet the needs of Antarctic researchers. With the growing popularity of sport diving, a new broad target audience for the watch developed. This set Seiko on the path to continuously develop durable, precise, and safe diving watches, a commitment that continues to this day.
This Special Edition 2018 of this classic from 1965 in the Prospex collection remains true to the original design, but has been technologically brought up to the latest standard. It houses an automatic movement Caliber 8L35. The design's fidelity to the original is evident in the hour markers, which stand out sharply but still remain an essential part of the dial itself.
The Seiko Prospex Night Ocean is designed for resilience and durability: The zirconium ceramic bezel is extremely scratch and shock resistant, the stainless steel case is protected by a special hard coating, and the sapphire glass is anti-reflective. The watch has a water resistance of up to 100 meters for greater reliability. The strap is also made of the best material, the watch comes with a hard-coated stainless steel band with dive extension and silicone strap.
