Arita Porcelain: A Heritage of Japanese Craftsmanship
Arita, a small town on Kyushu, the third largest island in the southwest of Japan, gained fame in the early 17th century when clay was found that was suitable for porcelain production. The porcelain products were soon appreciated in Japan for their high quality and craftsmanship. The mechanical movements of the Seiko Presage models have an equally impressive story, stemming from the legacy of Seiko's over 100-year watchmaking tradition.
Handcrafted dials by Master Hiroyuki Hashiguchi
The dials of the automatic watch are developed by the experienced craftsman Hiroyuki Hashiguchi and his colleagues in collaboration with the Presage team, and are manufactured by a renowned craft business in Arita that has been producing porcelain since 1830. The production of the dials takes place in a multi-stage process that requires skill, patience, and experience. The dials are coated with a glaze unique to Arita porcelain, which gives them a deep, rich surface.
