Seiko's first dive watch, and also the first in Japan , was made in 1965, when watches with high water resistance were still relatively rare. It had an automatic caliber and was water resistant up to 150 meters . Designed for maximum reliability and readability even under the harshest conditions, the watch was used in the Japanese Antarctic Expedition (1966-1969) . Back when navigation technology was still in its infancy, a precise watch was absolutely essential for astronomical observations in the polar region, and the Seiko diving watch proved to be a reliable companion on every expedition.
