Humphrey Necklace Twister 2mm + 11-12mm Tahitian Pearl
Twister pendant 2mm, 6 twists, stainless steel
9 mm white freshwater pearl + 11-12 mm Tahitian pearl
The goal that Humphrey, in collaboration with Norbert Muerrle, set for this line of jewelry was to find a stainless steel material that is elastic. After more than a year of development work, we now have a 2 mm thick fabric that consists of many individual stainless steel threads in different alloys and thicknesses. The stainless steel threads are twisted and processed into one another. Only the right arrangement provides the desired properties. The pendant, with its organic twists, can be worn on a rubber necklace, a snake chain, a Venetian chain or a rope. The design with the different balls may be reminiscent of the "retro style". What is certain is that these pieces are simply beautiful.
Humphrey's Tahitian Pearls:
The black-lipped Pinctada Margaritafera oyster produces Tahitian black pearls off the islands of French Polynesia. The oyster is quite large, sometimes reaching 30 centimeters in diameter. Therefore, the pearls are often large. Their natural, dark colors make them unique. They can take on gray, silver, or charcoal-like shades.
Humphrey's Freshwater Pearls
Although the traditional source of pearls is oysters that live in salt water, mollusks that live in freshwater lakes and rivers can also produce pearls. Freshwater pearls are tough and resist chipping, abrasion and show less signs of wear.
Freshwater pearls differ from other cultured pearls in that they are not provided with a core. Instead, a small incision is made in the tissue, into which a piece of tissue from another oyster is inserted. The mussels are cared for between 2 and 6 years. The finished beads are made of solid mother of pearl. In recent years, the Chinese have taken the art of freshwater pearl farming to a level where the top quality pearls are almost indistinguishable from their saltwater counterparts.
The HUMPHREY jewelery wearer can therefore be sure that she owns a special piece of jewellery.
Dangers to the Pearls
Due to their chemical composition, pearls are sensitive to chemical and physical influences (e.g. they should be removed for showering and washing the hair). They consist mainly of calcium carbonate and the organic horny substance conchyn. Pearls are sensitive to excessive heat, drought and moisture.
care of the pearls
There are special cleansing baths for this that are mild. If possible, pearls should not be ultrasonically cleaned. You can easily clean the beads yourself from time to time. Place the pearl in a bath of lukewarm water with a dash of mild dish soap and a little alcohol and brush gently. Then rinse the bead with clear water and dry the bead with a soft cloth. Every two to three years you can carefully rub the pearl with lanolin. A piece of pearl jewelery gives pleasure on many days and for a lifetime!
